Wildflowers, Imperfect BirdsI breathed your name like wildflowers under vast broken skies, in wide-open spaces. The wind blowing through them spoke of dew and dirt and petrichor, and there was sunlight on the ground like a mosaic patterned by god's own hands.

I said it like a monarch claiming new land: a declaration, a butterfly breath over old earth; like it was coffee on a warm morning with the sun in my eyes, interlacing with my lashes; like it was a dream; like it was a prayer like it was a miracle wrought of air and bone and body: you, in, out, in, out, in and in and in.

I cried it out like an earthquake between lip and lip, continents that don't quite fit: your
the museher moonbeam hair
falls around me
threading fingers
limbs,
suture-grip
on my hand—
and she,
medusachild,
forsaken by athena,
leftover
after the harrowing
—she’s all
tempered steel
and armored glances.
want to hold her,
break through
the thin sultry
barriers,
always tempting
and—
she bleeds
perfection
[blind to her
insides].
she brings out
the poet in
me:
stringing words
together
with her low
alto voice,
slipping on her
thoughts.
i want to be
there
the day she
says too much
and overdoses
on metaphysical
philosophy.
and she and i
           oh, she and
i—; yes, i
will bring reality
tumbling
           down with
a

     i. summergirl,
you are crowthroated and tumbling
through the aspen grove
hair on fire with sunrise, lungs
full of sky.
eyelashes like wildflowers
and every morning brings
a new spray of freckles
and a sharper curve to your collarbones.
the cornfields hold no shadows
for your lighthouse eyes
and there are no endings in that
surefooted smile.
     ii. you have grown
so fast.
autumn finds you with broken ankles
leaning on an oak branch
and watching the skies.
crow to sparrow--you are quiet.
summergirl, there is peace in silence,
perched treetop,
fallen antlers in your hands.
you will come to mourn your deer.
keep them close.
     iii. by winter you have paled,
and like the streams 
your eyes have frosted over.
you feel the chill--
there is no need for sight.

Ocean EyesYour skin would be lace
Between my fingertips,
Tangling with streams
Of golden sunlight that
Button you up,
Leaving intricate patterns
That tell your secrets
With every thread.

You'd breathe like a mermaid,
The scent of the sea echoing
In our veins,
Like teenage hearts
Pumped full of lust.
Too fast.
Like heels on marble floors,
But you're so
Much closer
Than that.

You're blood in my lungs
And air in my heart,
But I live only
Off the raindrops
That fall from
Your soft, sea-stone eyes
When a smile curves your lips.

The edges
Gathering me,
Unraveling me.

(I carve you in the sand,
But ocean tears
Wash you away.)

 unblemished and
 stunning

 Truth then became water to
 pruning fingers and splitting lips,
 while she drowned
 in the mouth
 of a liar like me.

if you've got that person dreading over
drafts and dreams on end

it is now time to
tame this p(o)et's perverse mane
you've got your hands on
a fragile purebred
which can be very tricky for
first timers
Harvest MoonThree a.m. moonlight
across lazy dust motes; a
tree scrapes the window.
Your arm weighs on my hip like
whispered promises of love.
in dark eyeethereally floating there
envying the lust of life
luridly at a rolling boil

expansive outcome of supernova
distant alluring signal
behind fine line lashes

comet trails pioneer the iris
tease of civilizations incalculable
ancient creation secrets born anew

granted before wish uttered
just a shy blink leaves me
ethereally floating there
i found a body"i found a body made of light and wood."

with pieces of fleshy bark pasted on
roughly, unevenly-
as if its creator were a drunken artist.

from the rich-brown wooden body
tiny green buds spurt;
and beneath the bark,
a hot light glows
bubbling between the cracks of wood
as if larva would pour out if a piece of bark
were to be peeled away.
a swarm of buzzing fireflies,
lingering near the magnificently delicate body.

the body belonged to a man I talked with in my dreams.
his peculiar mind babbled with demons -
they were long and fleshy
and fell over
   like old flowers
        bowing in sorrow.
the righteous

the room smelled of paint and chocolate;
a stain that won’t wash out no matter how vigorously you grate,
no matter how deeply you peel.

“Mothers never cry when their boys run towards large army tanks, and fishermen never weep when they return home with nothing.” These were my forced whispers in her ear.

ticking antiques and wooden furnishing,
a land flowing with silk and money.

Lullabyborn from damp earth and oceansoul,
her sparrowbones sway in the wind
—too light to hold herself down: the unbearable
weightlessness of her own actions.
she digs her feet into the dirt,
hollowing out the pores, so her mother can breathe;
ash spews up from the earth’s core, shimmers
incandescent like stardust in the last rays of light.
                    oh, how mother mourns her empty womb:
everything dies, everything dies
in oil-spun fibers and oxygen-starved epithelium.
she holds herself down, presses her fingers into flesh
and curls inside herself, like a seed
waiting, waiting
and she welcomes it, the sleep that comes:
       
Ocean EyesYour ocean eyes will inherit the earth,
and the gulls of the sea will not brace you
for what the waves and winds have broken down.

The pearls of your mouth are just now washing to shore,
and your endearing reach trusts with ivory naivety,
but your lack of profanity will not save you from perversion.

All I can do is sing you love songs,
and hope the world is still worth saving,
when your ocean eyes reflect the sky, still blue.

the clawing out for unseen sunsets and unturned tides.

InfernoSeptember is a sultry tangle
of curly hair and corduroy jackets stretched
over broad shoulders that I've been leaning on,
metaphorically.

He won't press for answers
and I won't trouble him with my problems.
So he complains about the weather –
he's never gotten used to these sticky, southern delta summers –
while I hold the door
and press the call button.

The half-lit elevator drops us off above Dante's first layer.
I feel sorry for anyone beneath,
but I've indulgences to buy
and my own hell to return to.

But there's a light in my pocket –
abandon not all hope,
and

smile.
RestlessI’ve been living in the same breathy dream
for too many days now; I’m bed-ridden and
stale and I reek of those moments that come
full throttle like a car crash on a winter night

     this is evolution where weak hearts
     are afraid of the shadows and where
     everything changes,
     an apologetic wind births no remorse;

     set sail, I am the sunken wreckage

Oceane, Adrift

Undone from sea-moorings,
I float.

The sea has bid me barren, an
island with no anchor.

Bleak and pale I drift,
to and fro.

Gentle giants nudge me,
their fins propellers – spurring
me on.

Sailors cry out, their
voices lost amid deep thoughts and
deeper dreams.

I drift, an island set
free too soon.

Anchorless, I ride storms and waves;
the way children ride ponies.

Torn from my harbour,
I sail.

Oceane: Wildly popular French name meaning ocean, which could easily cross the sea. Female.

People say I don't feel - that there is no capacity for it because of all I have set aside and to their knowledge, forgotten.
They are wrong - I do feel, but I do not forget. My life may be a complete mess, but I have some semblance of organisation in my memories and the experiences I have earnt - whether they came through bullying, false love or strong hatred. That is enough.
So to those who believe I will fall apart in a light wind, I say this - You know nothing of me, you can unchain my anchor but I will come home.
